Of Maasai warriors and galloping herds of zebra

February 2022

Ndutu, Serengeti, South Africa

I understand and accept that a man must prove himself worthy of his girlfriend, repeatedly. And that there are many ways this worthiness can be measured. I thought that perhaps the depth of my affinity with the animal kingdom would be the measuring stick. Or perhaps the adventurous spirit I display that accompanies our nomadic lifestyle. But no. It is the height of the jump. This, I learned from the son of a Maasai Village Chief.

Thanks Donna for such wonderful words of praise. So glad you enjoyed this video and that you are so enjoying following our adventures.

I agree that was a good opening line by Ben which had me laughing yet again. The first time being when he tried valiantly to jump with the Masai warriors who left him in the dust. Haha too funny.

Wow, just wow! This is the most incredible safari ever! So many animals – and such a muddy adventure as well. My favorite shots are from the lions in the tree and the running zebras and wildebeest together. To be able to experience all that in person. You two must be over the moon. And that Airbnb with the Masai! No wordsโ€ฆ

Thank you Liesbet. This safari experience in Serengeti is something I have dreamt about doing with Ben for years and it far exceeded both of our expectations.. It was truly a lifetime opportunity and I know we will both be watching all the footage again and again for years to come!

Learning about the Masai and the added visit to their boma was unexpected. It was so interesting to learn first hand about these nomadic warriors and the modern day challenges that they face today…

Thanks for your positive feedback and one day I will catch up with my reading of my favorite blogs… ๐Ÿ™‚

Itโ€™s been such a joy following your travels Peta and Ben. I remember the Ngorogoro Crater well and the magnificent Masai. We stayed at the Ngorogoro Crater Lodge for a couple of days and nights as a luxury treat after summiting Kilimanjaro, some many years ago. But the real treat of course was travelling in the landrover with the guide and seeing vast numbers of magnificent animals, birds, plants, insects out on the vast terrain.

Susan, it was such a delight to meet you both and so pleased that we managed to have our paths cross! Summiting Kilimanjaro! Wow, that is impressive! We will have to talk about that next time we get together ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you Susan for all your lovely positive feedback both here and on instagram. Hope the rest of your Garden Route trip went really well.

Thanks Charles.. So glad you enjoyed the video. That one took weeks to put together as we have SO much footage of the safari it was really difficult to choose what to feature. The final video is very much a synopsis of course of the experience. Thanks for riding along with us!

Peta and Ben, I have been following your Airbnb adventures on Instagram and just when I think you can’t top the last experience, you go and do it! I can’t thank you guys enough for sharing as you go. Peta, did you really say, “I’d rather walk” at the end of the video? Ben’s response cracked me up! Maybe a little case of car sickness?

Suzanne so glad you have been enjoying following our adventures on the Live Anywhere on Airbnb program. It really does feel like things reached a high pinnacle with the Serengeti experience. Hard to beat that one!!

That joy ride with our ranger was way more than car sickness, I actually feared we would get injured being thrown back and forth and sliding all over the place. Definitely not enjoyable and outright dangerous. Yup at that point I was very happy to walk and yes I figured the lions would have no interest in me as this is a very abundant time for them with all the baby wildebeest around.

The video was fabulous! All that wildlife! So amazing. And I love the jumping Masai, and the music, and you got some fabulous photos. What a magical time you’re having!

Thank you Alison! Photography compliments from you are a high compliment indeed. I was very pleased with the portrait photography from our Masai visit. Hard to beat seeing the wildlife at Serengeti at this particular time.

I totally agree that Ben is doing a great job at the music choreography on the videos. Definite talent.

Thanks so much. What a treat it was to see an abundance of wildlife AND have the gorgeous African bush as a backdrop. Continuous changing landscapes, but all stunningly beautiful especially at the different times of day.

I keep saying that I can travel vicariously through/with you two, but it’s repeatedly true. I love your videos, your photos on Instagram, and this blog. I follow you both almost like a stalker, but truly, I’m not stalking. I’m appreciating your sense of adventure and love for all places and people. These photos are so lovingly taken. The men so handsome. However, I did not see Ben jump. Did I miss something? ๐Ÿ™‚ (I can hear Peta’s answer, rather sardonic, ‘no Pam, you didn’t miss a thing…”) Smiling.

Not sure I want to volunteer the shameful and feeble act of jumping, but it’s at 3:30…

Keep stalking, it’s giving me motivation to do the hard work to keep pumping out these videos. The problem is that we keep creating content faster than we can make videos. Oh the hardship!

Thanks for your comments as always.

    Ben
